Sheikh Abdul-Azeez ar-Raajhee, may Allaah preserve him was asked, Is there a difference between beliefs and methodology, such that it can rightly be said so and so his beliefs are those of the first three generations, but his methodology is modernist or his methodology is that of a partisan group or organization?
He replied, Minhaj or methodology is the general path, meaning the overall path that is proceeded upon by someone. Yet the path which a person proceeds upon, undoubtedly requires that this encompass and include their essential beliefs. Generally one’s path follows and comes from someone’s essential beliefs, as the foundation is one’s inward beliefs. The foundation of your way is your beliefs, the beliefs of a Muslim. Those beliefs are what direct and guide your behavior and direct your general path. When someone’s beliefs are sound, it directs the body’s deeds and rectifies their general way. Likewise, corrupt beliefs facilitate and lead to your general way or path being one which opposes true guidance, and leads to your body and limbs putting forth actions which oppose the Sharee’ah of Allaah.
