What is it Obligatory upon a Muslim Woman to Learn

Question:

What is the Sharee’ah knowledge that it is obligatory upon a woman to learn?

Answer:

First, it is obligatory upon her to learn her fundamental beliefs from the Book and the Sunnah, and then her ritual prayers, knowing how exactly the Messenger of Allaah, may Allaah’s praise and salutation be upon him and his family, prayed. If she is someone who possesses wealth she must learn what Allaah has made obligatory upon her from the obligatory charity or zakaat. If she is engaged in buying and selling she must learn the related rulings of that commerce.

Likewise, if she is involved in any work, then it is obligatory upon her to learn the ruling related to that field or endeavor. This is what is meant by the hadeeth of the Messenger of Allaah, may Allaah’s praise and salutation be upon him and his family, {Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim}. Similarly, if she is a female doctor it is obligatory upon her to study the issues such as: is it permissible for her to mix with men, is it permissible to use as medication that contains forbidden substances?

It is required that you understand the rulings of those matters related to the work you are engaged in from the guidance of the Book and the Sunnah. What I mean by this is that she gain an understanding of the relevant evidences from the Book and the Sunnah, not that she restrict herself to only those medical practices based upon the knowledge from the Book and the Sunnah.
